About Alborosie
Alborosie (born Alberto D’Ascola, from Marsala, Sicily) is an Italian-born reggae singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist who relocated to Kingston, Jamaica to work closer to reggae’s roots. He’s known for blending classic roots/dub aesthetics with modern production, and for being hands-on in the studio—often playing multiple instruments and producing his own records.
He broke through internationally with releases like “Soul Pirate” (widely associated with fan-favorite tracks such as “Kingston Town” and “Herbalist”) and continued with albums including “Escape From Babylon,” “2 Times Revolution,” and “Sound the System.”
A major career highlight: Alborosie won the MOBO Award (Music of Black Origin) for Best Reggae Act (2011), underlining his global status in reggae beyond his European beginnings.
